Passed away on June 16th, 2025, in his 91st year. Ted was a Western Mustangs football player in the 1950’s and a longtime volunteer curator for the JP Metras Sports Museum.

Passed away peacefully on February 16th, 2025, in her 94th year. Catherine was a woman of firsts. She was the first woman inducted into the UWO Athletic Hall of Fame. She was the first to be awarded White and Purple Blankets for her time as a Western Mustangs swimmer from 1950 to 1955. She was also the first and only woman to receive the Claude Brown Trophy.

Passed away on February 11th, 2025. Bill was a Western Mustangs athlete across many sports, including track and field, wrestling, and football. Bill went on to play in the CFL for the Toronto Argonauts and was inducted into the Mustangs Hall of Fame in 1979, along with his wrestling and football teams.

Passed away on January 16th, 2025, at the age of 43. Rebecca was an avid basketball player and graced the Western Mustang Basketball team from 2000 to 2005.

Passed away on October 16th, 2024, in his 83rd year. Whitman was an avid football, basketball, and track and field athlete in the early 1960’s at Western. He was drafted into the CFL, playing with the Ottawa Roughriders, and was inducted into the Mustangs Hall of Fame in 1983.

Passed away peacefully on October 2nd, 2024, at the age of 74. Richard was a Western Mustang rower in the 1970’s, and his 1979 Varsity 8 Lightweight team were inducted into the Mustangs Hall of Fame in 2023.

Passed away on September 4th, 2024, in her 80th year. Bernice was a Western Mustangs athlete, playing basketball, softball, and track and field in the 1960’s.

Passed away on August 16th, 2024, at the age of 44. Ryan was a talented hockey player at Western, winning a National Championship in 2002. He played nationally and oversaw in Holland and Italy, and represented Canada at the World University Games in Austria.

Passed away on July 25th, 2024, in his 80th year. Jim was an avid track and field athlete, winning an OUAA hurdlers championship and a CIAU championship in relay and 300 m. He was also a longtime assistant track and field coach at Western for 35 years and was inducted into the Mustangs Hall of Fame in 2010.

Passed away on July 19th, 2024, at the age of 58. Deborah was a gifted soccer player, playing the position of striker at Western from 1984 to 1986. She was selected OUA West All-Star twice, inducted into the City of Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame, A.N. Myers Athletic Wall of Distinction, and the University of Western Ontario Women’s Soccer Athletic Wall of Honour.

Passed away on Tuesday, April 23rd. Vaughan played volleyball and rugby at Western in the late 1960’s and was a recipient of the Purple Blanket Award in 1972. He also coached men’s volleyball at Western from 1978 to 1985 and won three OUAA titles during his tenure.

Passed away on January 22nd, 2024, in her 70th year. Rose was a Western Mustangs Hall of Fame basketball player from 1974 to 1976.

Passed away on December 21st, 2023. Doug was a Western Mustang football player from 1963 to 1967 and was drafted to the CFL by Hamilton and Montreal, going on to win two Grey Cups Championships.

Passed away on April 26th, 2023, three days shy of his 80th birthday. Craig was a beloved coach of the Western Mustangs men’s basketball team for 14 years. He is often referred to as the most successful men’s basketball coach in UWO’s history. His team in 1990-91 won a National Championship, and his career record was 327 wins to 122 losses. He firmly believed in the power of sport to uplift communities.

Passed away on January 31st, 2023, in her 103rd year. Alice was a Western Mustangs hockey player from 1938 until 1940. She was also the President of the WAA from 1994 until 1996. Alice was known as an equestrian trailblazer, an accomplished international equestrian both in competition and judging of horses.

Passed away on January 2nd, 2023, two days shy of her 30th birthday. Samantha played varsity ultimate frisbee for the Western Mustangs and was awarded the Scholar Athlete Award for excellence in athletics and academics.

Passed away on December 5th, 2022, at the age of 92. Nancy was a Western Mustangs swimmer from 1949 until 1952. Nancy’s swimming blazer was donated to the John P. Metras Sports Museum and is currently on display.

Passed away on October 14th, 2022. Jacques was a Western Mustangs football player in the 1950’s and went on to play in the CFL for the Montreal Alouettes in 1954.

Passed away on October 15th, 2022, at the age of 59. Jeff was a strength and conditioning coach for the Western Mustangs football team and also worked with elite athletes at the Olympic level.

Passed away on September 22nd, 2022, at the age of 48. Michele was a talented soccer player for the Western Mustangs and went on to pursue a career in policing in the Peel region.

Passed away in July of 2022. Jason was a quarterback coach for the Western Mustangs and was heavily involved with the Jr. Mustangs football program, as well as other football groups and clubs across London. Those who spoke of him said that “he was football in Ontario.”

Passed away peacefully on May 19th, 2022, at the age of 84. George was a track and field athlete for the Western Mustangs in 1957, went on to the Olympics, and eventually became a teacher and mentor.

Passed away on April 25th, 2022, at the age of 53. Bob played basketball and football during his time at Western and went on to play football for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL for 8 seasons. Bob was then appointed to the position of defensive coordinator for the Western Mustangs for 20 years, while teaching at Western in sport psychology and kinesiology.

Passed away on March 16th, 2022, just shy of his 85th birthday. William was a Mustangs football player, swimmer, and gymnast. He was also the first male cheerleader at Western. William proudly swam for Canada at the 1954 British Empire Games. His name is featured on the Molson Wall display under the British Empire Games in the John P. Metras Sports Museum.

Passed away on January 6th, 2022, at the age of 76. Larry was appointed Offensive Coordinator of the Western Mustangs football team in 1975 and took over as Head Coach in 1984. During his tenure as head coach, he led the Mustangs to two Vanier Cups in 1989 and 1994, eight Yates Cups, and was named Ontario coach of the year seven times and Canadian university coach of the year twice. The highlight of his professional coaching career was being named to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2014.

Passed away on January 4th, 2022, at the age of 76. Darwin was a Western fixture for over 40 years, starting as the Head Coach of Mustangs Football from 1975 until 1983 and as the Chair of Intercollegiate Athletics for 20 years.

Passed away on January 2nd, 2022, in his 98th year. Herb was a quarterback of the renowned 1940's Mustang football teams. Herb could be found in the stands of home games, at the 50-yard line, until his 95th year.

Passed away on December 24th, 2021. For 21 years, Rocco was the beloved men's Western Mustangs soccer coach.

Passed away on December 14th, 2021, in his 93rd year. Robert played basketball and football for the Western Mustangs in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Highlighting Bob's university basketball career, and one of his favorite stories, was the game in Kentucky against legendary Adolf Rupp's US National Championship team, which went on to represent the USA at the Olympics. As a Mustang running back, he helped take the football team to victory in the 1949 Vanier Cup. In later years, as a Western Alumni, he used his championship jersey, in place of tickets, to get into home football games as a VIP.

Passed away on August 30th, 2021, at the age of 98. Jack represented the Western Mustangs across many sports, including football, basketball, baseball, tennis, and squash. Jack worked at Western for more than half a century, winning 31 team titles and 21 single titles in OUA.

Passed away on August 3rd, 2021. Michael was a beloved Western Mustangs coach of the women’s tennis team for 15 seasons.

Passed away on July 14th, 2021, in her 52nd year. Maureen was an avid Mustangs varsity basketball player and a two-time Ironwoman.

Passed away on May 28th, 2021, in his 96th year. Gordon was a talented football player for the Western Mustangs during the late 1940s.

Passed away on May 17th, 2021, at the age of 52. Karen was a scholarship winner, a top-five nationally ranked long-distance runner, and a varsity athlete during her time at Western.

Passed away on May 8th, 2021, in his 89th year. Cameron was a Western Mustangs hockey player and later began a long career of teaching at Western.

Passed away on January 8th, 2021, weeks after his 90th birthday. Robert was a longtime football fan and graduated from Western University.
